We really want to give the raffle a go each time to boost our funds. Other older
people’s groups do it and it’s fun. Members are encouraged to bring little things
to meetings as prizes – maybe you have an item of non-perishable food, an
ornament, a book, a small houseplant that you could offer. But nothing of
greater value than around £3 – that would require a special occasion which we
might do just every now and then. We sell tickets at £1 each. We’re also looking
for volunteers to go round the meeting selling the tickets.
Subscriptions
Quite a few people still haven’t paid for 2025. Remember subscriptions now run
from January to December so people need to pay early in the year, unless you
already have a standing order. Thanks to all those who already paid £40; you’re
paid up for life. Otherwise, it’s £8 per year, which doesn’t quite cover costs so
we are very grateful to those who offer a £10 note and don’t ask for change.
Our next meeting; Thursday 22 May, 2pm to 4pm at the Winkfield
As the newsletter goes to print, we are trying to secure someone from MIND to come and have a
talk with us about mental health. We will keep you posted. James will also be doing a presentation
on his second road trip through West Africa, Angola and Sao Tome and Principe. We may even try to get Clara to talk about her recent trip to the Caribbean. We hope to have a few gentle warm-up exercises at the start of the meeting (optional!)
June meeting; social on Thursday June 26 th , 2pm to 4pm at the Winkfield
We’re going to have a social of some sort. Polly from Reach and Connect will give
a short presentation on this year’s Age Well Festival. You’ll have a chance to
make a banner/sash for the event too. More on this later in the newsletter. And
if you’d like to contribute something to eat of some sort, please let us know.
There will be some music and a chance to mingle and chat with other members.
Another great river trip planned for Thursday 3 July
Cruising down the river – again – London Eye Pier to Greenwich.
Back by popular demand. We’ve decided that we’ll float down the river again on
Thursday 3 July. We’ll depart from London Eye Pier at 10:50am. We’ll meet at
the Pier at 10.30am. The closest accessible tube station is Waterloo. It’s less
than a 10 minute walk from there. We’ll arrive in Greenwich at noon. There’s a
great market and pop up food stalls where we ate lunch. When we went in
December, the price was about £8 if you had a Freedom Pass or +60 Oyster Card.
If there’s enough interest, James is happy to meet people in Tottenham and we
can either get the tube or the bus together. Let us know.
